REHOBOTH CLEANED UP | A Perfect Public, Private Co-operation
REHOBOTH TOWN COUNCIL NEWS - Manycoloured Manley

The national call by His Excellency The President Dr. Hage Geingob to clean up Namibia, definitely did not fall on death ears when it comes to Rehoboth as most of the cleanup teams including civil organizations did not down tools since the called campaign day lapsed on May 01, 2018, attributing that the initiative will benefit the town well, by getting away with years of troubling poor refuse and rubble removals.

While all Rehoboth based schools took off on the 24th May to allow learners to participate in the cleaning up of the southern rainbow town, the cleanup campaign started over three weeks ago for some civil organizations such as the Rehoboth Cemetery Development Forum which started the two graveyard cleanup when the project manager Ms. Groenewaldt has called on local sympathizers to take charge of cleaning on relative grave and assist with at least nine extra others was well received.

The Rehoboth based René Kids Centre and the Rehoboth Multipurpose Youth Club were among other civil groups which added strides to the Namibia-Rehoboth Post Cleanup Campaign, by dispatching some vibrant youth (male and female) that rounded up the streets of Rehoboth with cabbage bags, colorful laughter and in joyful moods.

The main event was on Africa Day 25 May 2018 as set officially by the Rehoboth Town Council, CEO Mr. Christoph Uirab in association with the Ministry Representative Council, Ms. Natalia Goagoses. On main event day, a few minutes past five in the morning the communities where awaken by the Cleanup Mobilisers of the municipality, which motivated the masses to join the official Namibia-Rehoboth Post Cleanup activity. By that time in the morning all tools; tipper trucks, loaders, garbage trucks, pickup (bakkies) were all set right inform of Grens Market waiting for the masses to join the fun.

The exiting campaign featured some great humour. It was evident that also considering that it was a holiday, no alcohol cleaning was the theme and fresh water was the trend as most cleaners in groups of more than ten would share some bottles of mineral water while combating garbage.

Multiple tipper trucks and pick up (bakkies), private and public seemingly chase after each other back and forth the main dumping site and the pickup cleanup points.

Another best gesture was the cleanup participation of animal drawn carts (donkie kar) as well as several taxi’s advocating the cleanup campaign by writing “Clean Up Day” on the back wind screen.

Along the road on several points there where spotted kitchens with traditional fire and pots, preparing meals for the cleanup participant and that was definitely enough motivation for anyone to be part of the Rehoboth Post Clean Up Campaign.

The official closing of the cleanup was set at the Rehoboth Stadium, which was a right platform for returned Town Council CEO and counterpart to address the community on future plan, including the launch of the Rehoboth Residential Census etc…

All in all the, Namibia-Rehoboth Post Cleanup Campaign marked a significant collaboration by both public and private players from corporates to community groups and it is key to say that although there is a common notion that the Rehoboth community is in disagreement with the affairs of the council, this clean up co-operation by all parties totally narrated the opposite.

Well done Rehoboth, let’s keep these sustainable, positive and cooperative energy on ahead, in order to create a better Rehoboth and a peaceful Namibia at large.
